Jailed Iranian-Canadian now in hospital, friend told

A friend says former University of Toronto professor Ramin Jahanbegloo, an Iranian-Canadian detained in a  prison in Tehran since last week, has been transferred to a hospital.

Iran: Top Scholar Detained Without Charge

One of Iran’s most prominent scholars, Ramin Jahanbegloo, is being held in Tehran’s notorious Evin prison, where he is at risk of being tortured, Human Rights Watch said today. Iranian authorities must immediately release Jahanbegloo, who is being held without charge after nearly a week in incommunicado detention.

Iran’s U.N. Envoy Criticizes Resolution

Iran’s top U.N. envoy criticized a proposed resolution on its nuclear program that carried a threat of further action which could include sanctions, charging Thursday that it’s aimed at provoking confrontation rather than resolving the dispute.
